~ Item for sale is a sewing pattern, not a finished garment ~

Each pattern package includes two styles: the Lacy Cape and Three-Tiered Cape.

These types of short capes were common from the 1830's on, but reached their height of popularity (and decoration) in the 1890's. Huge sleeves made jackets an impossible fashion. Women wore multiple layers of pantaloons and petticoats under their skirts, but the close silhouette above the waist allowed only camisole, corset, and corset cover. The ladies were cold above the waist, thus the short capes.

The pattern is printed on paper for more durability.
