This pattern is the perfect starting point for creating your own stunning style, whether you are a dancer, historic reenactor, or lover of exotic fashion.
The Choli is a fitted backless top that ties in the back; it has short sleeves and underarm gussets that provide ease of movement during practice and performance. The easy-sew Pantaloons feature voluminous legs that help hold out the skirt and pleat into a narrow hip band to reduce bulk at the top edge, which sits at the hipline. The Ten-Yard Skirt is a three-tier garment that reduces bulk at the upper edge and the weight of the overall garment, but truly is ten yards around at the hem. It is easy to make from a single rectangle of fabric and results in a dynamic garment that is swishy, lofty, and perfect for dancing.
On top of the three foundation garments described above, the dancer may also wear the Hip Shawl, Tassel Belt, and Coin Bra. Pattern instructs how to make a custom Hip Shawl from fabric or by starting with a purchased scarf. Instructions for the Tassel Belt include how to make your own tassels and design ideas for embellishment. The Coin Bra begins with purchased costumers' cups or the deconstruction of a readymade bra; instructions show how to build your own bra and gives ideas for decoration.
