Peasants, farmers, and shepherds wore this tucked linen shirt until World War II in the Pannonian Basin, the northern farming district of the country then known as Yugoslavia. Simple straight lines give this shirt or dress an elegant look for any occasion.
The thigh-length shirt is constructed of straight panels of fabric, which are then tucked in front and pleated into a shoulder yoke in front and back. The sleeves with underarm gussets are pleated into cuffs. The notched collar and cuffs show the influence of tailored urban dress. The shirt, which has a front opening self-placket, buttons down the front and is offered in a low-calf dress length for women.
